Invitation to Participate in UKHSA Study on Tick Borne Disease Exposure in Dartmoor.

Dear Devon Archaeological Society, I am writing on behalf of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to invite you and those in your organisation to take part in our study investigating exposure to tick-borne diseases on Dartmoor. We are looking for those at risk of exposure to ticks and tick-borne disease through their job, voluntary work outdoors or participation in outdoor recreational activities. We are currently focusing on people who spend time in Dartmoor National Park and immediate surroundings and believe this study may be particularly relevant to you. We would be grateful if you could also share this invitation with others in your network who may regularly spend time outdoors on Dartmoor through their occupation or recreational activities. Why Your Participation Matters By participating in this study, you will help us better understand Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis and louping ill exposure in groups at risk of tick bite on Dartmoor, also to better understand the risk factors for exposure to these tick-borne diseases. Blood samples will be tested for antibodies indicating past exposure to these tick-borne pathogens. A benefit of taking part is that, if you wish, you can be notified of your individual test results. The attached participant information sheet gives further details on the study. What Participation Involves You are invited to attend a local drop‑in session, which usually takes around 20-30 minutes to take part. Refreshments are provided and you will have a chance to ask any questions you may have about the study. If you decide to take part, you will be asked to: Provide informed consent Complete a short questionnaire about your occupation, any outdoor recreational activities and tick exposure history Donate a small blood sample (less than one tablespoon) To ensure a smooth visit: We recommend drinking plenty of water and having something to eat before attending. Please wear clothing that allows easy access to the arm (e.g., short sleeves or sleeves that roll up easily). Bring reading glasses, if needed, to review the study information, consent form and questionnaire. Drop‑In Session Locations and Dates Dartmoor and surrounding areas: Location Date Time Postbridge Village Hall (PL20 6SY) Wednesday 18 February 9:00am – 7:00pm Brentor Village Hall (PL19 0LR) Thursday 19 February 9:00am – 7:00pm Throwleigh Village Hall (EX20 2JA) Wenesday 25 February 9:00am – 7:00pm South Brent Village Hall (TQ10 9JL) Thursday 26 February 9:00am – 6:00pm All sessions are drop‑in, so please come at a time that suits you.
